Notes
Bob and Pete djed at Cornerhouse after the concert
"The Northern College Of Music is a curious venue. Probably better if you have a symphony orchestra with you instead of a cowbell and a Roland Jupiter. We were sharing our air-conditioned (thank gawd) backstage area with a tuba player and various penguin-suited musicians. Andy Votel was not one of them. None of us had thought that the venue wouldn't have decks (decks? you weren't even allowed to smoke anywhere in the building) so "The Voice Of The Electronic Lawnmower" sat on his box of records and wept. Luckily he'd brought a copy of his forthcoming Welsh Rarebeat compilation cd so we stuck that in and it sounded wild. Mrs Votel - Jane Weaver - played a gorgeous set which was all new as far as I could tell. The first song had exactly the same chords as Last Orders For Gary Stead! Sarah got the whole crowd on stage for Nothing Can Stop Us. Then she smoked a cigarette openly, brazenly. It was that kind of a night." Bob Stanley
