Notes Reprising her Cathy Come Home/Poor Cow role, Carol White is a single mum living on a south London estate whose life changes when she meets rock star Mike Preston (Roy Harper) on Brighton beach. Director John McKenzie apparently wasn't sure whether to cast Harper, Marc Bolan, Kris Kristofferson or Ray Davies for the rock star role. Made was chosen, along with Clockwork Orange, to represent Britain at the 1972 Venice Film Festival. The Long Distance Piano Player was a Play For Today that gave Ray Davies his first starring role. He is bullied by his manager (Norman Rossington) into playing a 48 hour piano marathon in a seaside town. Includes the otherwise unheard Kinks songs Marathon and Got To Be Free |
