Back in 1993, when Saint Etienne did a short December tour to promote 'I Was Born On Christmas Day', we were looking for support acts. Alan McGee was still our manager at this point. He was very enthusiastic about a new group from Manchester he'd just signed to Creation and gave us a cassette with three or four songs on it - one of these was 'Live Forever' and, quite obviously on first listen, it was brilliant. I know it's hard now to imagine hearing it for the first time, but we were very impressed. Oasis supported us in Birmingham and Glasgow where they almost certainly turned their amps up to eleven. They were LOUD. Stephen Pastel was unimpressed, I remember that, but mostly remember their immobile stage presence and thinking they needed to work on that. What did I know? |
Oasis had a prior engagement for our London show, and we had to make do with the barely remembered Stereolab as a support group, plus where-is-he-now David Holmes DJ'ing. Can it be that it was all so simple then? Enjoy this t-shirt, or this mug, which commemorate a brief moment in time that I can safely say will never be repeated. Bob Stanley - September 2024
