July 20, 2020 1993 I Was Born On Christmas Day I'd met Tim in Manchester earlier in the year and we got on really well. So when we were looking for someone to duet on our Christmas single he was the obvious choice and I was made up when he said yes. The lyrics were by Bob who was indeed born on Christmas Day. We recorded the vocals in the toilet at Ian Catt's tiny studio in Mitcham and had one of the best days ever making the video. Happy times!! July 21, 2020 2012 Words And Music By Saint Etienne 'Words And Music By Saint Etienne' was our first album in seven years, which meant plenty of time to reflect on where we were and where we'd been. Our love of pop music and it's thread through our lives (and on into the future) made for perfect subject matter. We had four - four! - different people who had worked on number one records working with us. It felt like the whole album was recorded on summer days in Surrey and Sussex, though I know it can't have been. But I'd like to think it sounds that way. July 23, 2020 1998 Good Humor We're looking moody here having just returned from the Good Humor recording sessions in Malmo and having slightly over-enjoyed ourselves as we did in those days. A great picture from Hamish Brown who we met via Robin Turner and Nick Dewey (who together with Hamish and Mat Flint made up the legendary Revolver) Pete Wiggs (goodhumor, sweden, torejohansson, hamishbrown, bobpetesarah, saintetienne, hbsauce14, creationrecords) |

July 24, 2020 1993 Holloway Road This was taken at Backstreet Studio's on Holloway Road a few doors down from where Joe Meeks studio had been in the 60's. It was taken by Andy Willsher for an NME magazine feature but ended up on the cutting room floor. Bob and Pete are looking mean and moody in the background, we definitely used to spend more time in the pub over the road than rehearsing. July 31, 2020 (Two Photos) 2000 Sound Of Water The cover for the album is from Julian Opie's 1999 painting 'Engines Voices Footsteps, a landscape image titled after three sounds he heard at the time he took the photograph. Things in my experience don't look photographic. When I recall the things I did in a day, for example, it's not as a series of photographs, high resolution pictures. It's a series of images which resemble symbols and signs. It's like another language. Julian Opie, 2001 (saintetienne, soundofwater, julianopie, 2000) |
