Casino Classics "It was the mid 90s and I'd been sent by The Face magazine to photograph a live performance by the R&B band Jodeci. I remember thinking while shooting upward from the pit towards the band that the atmosphere was amazing and felt I should try to capture that as well. I turned to look at the crowd and it honestly felt a little like how it must have been when the Beatles played to girls in the 60s, only this was a totally black audience.
The girls who were closest to me looked to be in rapture, under a spell almost. I ran off a few frames of these girls but the images went unpublished. Some time later Bob Stanley, of Saint Etienne, asked me if I had any soul images and for some reason I showed him those girls and he loved them."
