"Fanclub Vinyl Almost Sold Out"

"This is a last call for anyone wanting 'I Love To Paint' or 'Nice Price' on vinyl as these won't be repressed. We thought we should let you know that we're down to the last few copies. There was a slight delay in the signed Christmas cards that go with the bundle arriving at the shipping warehouse but those got there yesterday and 'bundle' orders have been shipping steadily over the last 24 hours."

Please visit the Saint Etienne webshop quickly if you want these and haven't ordered yet. They should all arrive in time for Christmas.

Saint Etienne Operated Record labels (9/9)

This month the Disco continues to update the record labels operated by Saint Etienne section of the site. We finish off with Croydon Municipal: a label curated by Saint Etienne’s Bob Stanley that loves to root through boxes of old 45s and 78s, give them a quick wash, package them together, and make them available again at a nice affordable price. We think of it as a public service.

It's also intended as a way of curating the past, the early years of pop - almost everything is out there and available if you know which dusty rooms to look in, but you have to have the keys.

Croydon Municipal is an attempt to make sense of the analogue pop era in a digital world.

The labels releases are issued/distributed by the Cherry Red Records label

One of RPM Records defining releases remains the Dream Babes series , the Brit Girl Sound collections which started in 1994 and ran until 2007 reaching volume 8. The scene for collecting such sounds has only grown bigger and more international since then. Now it is time for RPM’s concluding word on the subject of its own series with this 3CD box set.

The Booklet has a piece from Bob Stanley and his take on the scene, including working with some of the artists. It was Bob who, in 1994, came to RPM with the idea of a compilation which became Volume 1 – Am I Dreaming.

Released November 20, 2017.

It features the 2008 Xenomania Mix of "Burnt Out Car", the Richard X mix of "This Is Tomorrow" and "Method of Modern Love". Travel Edition is the band's first compilation released in the US, as previous collections Too Young to Die and Smash the System: Singles and More were released in Europe only.

As a sweetener to fans, the compilation features two new tracks: "Primrose Hill" and "Fascination." "Primrose Hill" is essentially a stripped-down instrumental version of the single "Soft Like Me." The collection also features the rarely heard edit of "Avenue."

Dive!!

The new Saint Etienne single is called 'Dive' and is released next Friday 8th September. Check out the video now.

Shot in Scarborough last month here's what the films director Esther Johnson says: ‘Dive’ is such a summery song, and when I first heard it I was reminded of days at the seaside, with fish & chips and milkshakes. I chose to shoot the video in Scarborough, because many of the locations and features I loved there as a child are still intact: the ice-cream parlours, the funicular railway, the (now derelict) Futurist theatre, the signs. These features also link with another of my loves as a filmmaker: French New Wave cinema of the late 1950s and 1960s. The song’s immediacy and in-the-moment-ness suggested that the video’s story should take place in a single day. The boy visits the girl from across the sea; they spend the day together; they part. The various recurring motifs were inspired partly by my own memories, partly by the New Wave, and partly by the history and iconography of Saint Etienne.

One Track CD Promos have also been issued out to the media. The Singles section of the Disco will be updated shortly to add in Dive

The Quay Sessions - Glasgow with Roddy Hart

To round off the current series of The Quay Sessions in style, join Roddy Hart down by the River Clyde for a live broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland.

Performing on the night will be Saint Etienne. The trio of Sarah Cracknell, Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs racked up a string of indie-dance hit singles in the 1990s including Nothing Can Stop Us, He’s On The Phone and You’re In A Bad Way. Their blend of 1960s pop with a modern electronic sensibility shines bright as ever in their brand new album Home Counties.

Tour Playlist

"Here’s a small selection of songs we’ve been listening to on our tour bus to while away the hours. It’s can be a long drive from Bexhill to Exeter! There’s a great feeling of camaraderie on tour, many jokes shared, political discussion, partying and a little bit of snoozing. Cameron Crowe portrays all of this really well in his film 'Almost Famous' so we felt it only fair to include 'Tiny Dancer'." - Sarah Cracknell

UK Tour - Cardiff date change

As many of you will know we've been forced to switch our Cardiff date pushing it back by two days to Monday 5th June.

In an official statement from the promoters...

"Due to the huge increase in traffic, road closures and unprecedented security as a result of the UEFA Champion’s League Final in Cardiff on June the 3rd it has become logistically impossible for St Etienne, their crew, production and fans to access the Tramshed for their performance. For this reason we must regrettably postpone the show… but only by two days utill Monday 5th June. All tickets for the original show remain valid for the new date. Sorry for any inconvenience caused."

De La Warr Pavilion - June 6th (Rescheduled to December)

We've always wanted to play De La Warr Pavilion on the south coast and finally getting the chance on our 'Home Counties' tour in June. It's a stunning sea front Art Deco building built in 1935. One of the first modernist public spaces built in the UK it's situated in Bexhill on Sea close to Brighton and Hastings and worth a trip for the architecture alone.

Tickets are onside now from the link below and we'll be announcing details of some very special guests shortly.

Magpie Eyes

Here's the first single from our forthcoming album 'Home Counties' entitled 'Magpie Eyes'.

We'll be bringing you a proper video soon but in the mean time have a listen here - we hope you like it!!!

Here's what Pete says about the song.....

"the title was inspired by a book about Creation records ‘my Magpie Eyes are hungry for the prize' which in turn was taken from 'Up the Hill Down The Slope' by The Loft. I often find myself being so deep in thought that I'm not really listening to what my children are saying to me and I extrapolated guilty feelings over that into the story of someone who for a combination of personal ambition and commuter journey time ends up missing out on his kids growing up and not really knowing them or the 'Herberts' they might be hanging out with."

The album is available to pre-order from our shop (and other outlets) now but those who order directly from us will receive an exclusive art print and sticker sheet not available elsewhere. Those buying the bundle will receive an art print signed by Bob, Pete and Sarah.

Just a reminder that a brand new compilation compiled by Saint Etienne called Bob Stanley And Pete Wiggs Present English Weather is released on January 27, 2017 on Ace Records. Compilation is available on both CD and 2xLP.

The autumnal sound of Britain at the turn of the seventies, looking out through wet window panes to a new decade with a mixture of melancholy and optimism for what might come next. With the Beatles gone and the pound sinking, a new and distinctive sound emerges, led by flutes and mellotrons.
